According to currently published figures from Germany's Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity, around 10.8 million tonnes of food waste were generated in Germany in 2022.
The largest share – 58%, or around 6.3 million tonnes – arose in private households.
That corresponds to around 74.5 kilograms of food waste per person per year at household level.
